WHY IS THERE A LACK OF HEALTHCARE IN THE PHILIPPINES?

LANCE ANDRE C. CAÑEDA

Poverty is one of the key reasons why there is a shortage of healthcare access in the Philippines and a barrier to quality healthcare. The Philippines' poverty rate has increased as of 2022–2023. In the Philippines, nearly 5.6 million families experience poverty. One of the key factors contributing to poverty in the Philippines is poor governance, which has been linked to corruption and a political system controlled by political dynasties. Poverty has prevented millions of Filipinos from getting the healthcare services they need. Considering the fact that healthcare requires high costs and insurance, The high cost of pharmaceuticals, innovative diagnostics and procedures, and the over-prescription of low-value health tests and procedures are all driving up healthcare expenses, A lot of Filipinos are too poor to go to the hospital and get the treatment they need for their health, which is very important.
